The FCT Police Command has apprehended Shuaibu Alhaji Yusuf, who attempted suicide by climbing a broadcast mast in Katampe Hills, Abuja. This act was reportedly driven by the economic hardships he was facing.
The middle-aged man, hailing from Maiduguri, Borno State, caused a stir and attracted a crowd of onlookers as he mounted the Aso Radio broadcast mast and threatened to jump if the federal government did not reverse its policy on subsidy removal.
Authorities swiftly responded to the situation, and the police took Yusuf into custody following an appeal by the Acting Director General of the Federal Emergency Management Department FEMD. Florence Dawon Wenegieme persuaded him to abandon his suicide attempt and safely descend the mast.
In a hand-written note dropped during his climb, Yusuf outlined nine key points addressed to the government. These demands include the restoration of fuel subsidies and an urgent call for an end to the insurgency in the restive northeast and northwest regions.
