Nigeria has witnessed 135 building collapses and at least 26 deaths between 2022 and 2024, according to a report by the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG).
The guild reported that in 2022, there were 62 collapses, with Lagos accounting for 20, and in 2023, there were 52 collapses, with Lagos again leading with 17.

Investigations revealed causes including professional ineptitude, substandard materials, and weak foundations.
The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, led by Dr. Samson Opaluwah, has called for sanctions against negligent developers, emphasizing the need for government enforcement of building laws.
