Amid the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance, Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed concern that the North is being manipulated into participating in acts of vandalism associated with the demonstrations. Garba stated that northern influencers advocating for the protests should recognize their role in undermining their own region’s interests.
“The North is played into this protest of vandalism,” he posted on X, urging those involved to understand that they are being used to destroy their commonwealth.
The protests, which began on August 1 and are scheduled to continue until August 10, have been fueled by widespread hunger and inflation affecting many Nigerians. Organizers have highlighted the urgent need for government intervention to address these pressing issues.
In related news, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) reported the arrest of 32 individuals for vandalism during the initial day of protests. The agency has heightened its alert status across the country in response to the unrest.
As the protests unfold, various regions are experiencing differing levels of unrest. In Kano, a 24-hour curfew was imposed following violent incidents, while other states are witnessing a mix of peaceful demonstrations and clashes with security forces. The situation remains fluid as citizens continue to voice their frustrations over governance and economic hardship.
