The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has reiterated the Nigerian government’s stance against foreign interference in its domestic affairs, particularly in light of the recent #EndBadGovernance protests.
During a briefing with the diplomatic corps in Abuja, Tuggar emphasized that the government would take appropriate action against any foreign entity residing in Nigeria that is found to have directly or indirectly supported the protesters or sought to interfere in the country’s internal matters.
Tuggar’s comments come amidst heightened tensions following the protests, which began on August 1, 2024, in response to widespread hardship faced by citizens. The protests have been marked by violence, with reports of demonstrators carrying Russian flags, leading to concerns about foreign influence.
The Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining cordial international relationships while firmly stating that Nigeria will not tolerate any form of foreign meddling. He called for continued collaboration from the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts in addressing its challenges and achieving a better future for all citizens.
