The Federal Government is preparing to deploy over 10,000 “agro rangers” across 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enhance the protection of farmers. This initiative was announced by Olusegun Dada, a presidential aide, via a post on X.
The deployment will be executed through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and aims to bolster food security, particularly in the northern region and other areas facing security challenges. The agro rangers will be tasked with safeguarding farmlands, protecting farmers from rising attacks, mediating conflicts between farmers and herders, and preventing the destruction of agricultural lands.
This move comes as part of the government’s broader strategy to address insecurity in the agricultural sector and ensure the safety of those involved in farming activities.
