The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has invalidated the certificates of 101 graduates from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) due to irregularities in their mobilization and exemption processes.
According to the NYSC, 99 of the affected graduates were illegally mobilized for national service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 service years, while the remaining two were granted exemption certificates illegally.
The NYSC stated that it is committed to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities, are not recognized, while only qualified persons are issued NYSC Certificates of National Service.
The NYSC urged members of the public, especially corps employers, government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), corporate and religious organizations, multinational companies, and corps-producing institutions, to take note of the listed names and verify the authenticity of certificates presented to them.
The public is also encouraged to confirm the authenticity of certificates, exemption, and exclusion letters at the NYSC national directorate headquarters in Abuja before accepting them for any purpose
