The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Kano Zonal Command has received 12 female victims of human trafficking, rescued by the Kano State Police Command. The victims, aged between 15 and 40, were intercepted on August 3 while being transported to Libya for labor exploitation.
Three suspects—Shafi’u Salisu, Rebecca Adebayo, and Mujibat Olagoke—have been arrested in connection with the case and will face charges after investigations. The Kano Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, stated that the agency is committed to combating human trafficking in the region.
Babale urged the public to report suspicious cases of human traffickers and trafficking in their respective communities to appropriate authorities to help curb the menace. NAPTIP has been actively working to rescue victims and prosecute traffickers, with the Kano Zonal Command securing 14 convictions for human trafficking in the period from January to July 2023.
The agency has also organized campaigns and sensitization programs against human trafficking and child labor in markets, schools, and motor parks in the zone. NAPTIP’s efforts are crucial in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and ensuring justice for victims of trafficking.
