President Bola Tinubu has signed into law the Judicial Office Holders’ Salaries and Allowances Bill, which grants a 300% increase in salaries and allowances for judicial officers at the federal and state levels.
This landmark decision underscores President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce.
The new law prescribes the following annual salaries for top judicial officials:
- Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN): N64 million
- President of the Court of Appeal: N62.4 million
- Justices of the Supreme Court: N61.4 million each
- Chief Judges of Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and National Industrial Court: N7.9 million each
The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), stated that the new law will help the justice system work in the interest of all Nigerians. He explained that judicial officers in Nigeria have had the same salary for almost two decades, and Tinubu’s assent to the bill demonstrates his commitment to the sustainable reform of the administration of justice.
