Police officers under the banner of Concerned Police Inspectors in Nigeria protested at the Correspondent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday, demanding the payment of 11 months’ salary arrears. The officers, numbering around 1,500 and promoted from inspector II to I, expressed their frustration over the police authorities’ neglect of their welfare, which they claim has dampened their morale in crime-fighting efforts.
During the protest, the officers appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene and facilitate the payment of their overdue salaries, emphasizing the harsh socio-economic realities faced by their families due to the non-payment. They highlighted that the ongoing financial strain is affecting their ability to perform their duties effectively.
The protest underscores ongoing concerns regarding police welfare and the need for improved conditions for law enforcement personnel in Nigeria.
