Flooding has wreaked havoc in Borno, leaving 80% of the animals at the local zoo affected, according to the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA).
Dr. Moses Arokoyo, NVMA President, warned that without urgent action, the animals could face disease outbreaks, adding to the disaster. He urged the government to prioritize animal welfare alongside human relief efforts and called for stronger disaster management policies.
