The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given reasons about what led to the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
INEC Chairman, Mahmoud Yakubu at a World Press Conference in Abuja said while the delay was painful, there were several operational challenges.
He said the Commission also encountered attempts to sabotage its preparations with serious fire incidents.
He confirmed that while the commission attempted to rectify the logistical challenges in 48 hours, its IT department advised that it will take five to six days to reconfigure the smart card readers earlier configured for the election.
He however said the commission was working on the completion of the deployment of materials and configuration of all smart card readers.
