No one Will Vote On An Empty Stomach, FG Tells Civil Servants

The Federal Government says it has directed all the ministries, department and agencies to immediately see to the payment of workers’ February salary to enable them to stay afloat during the elections period.
It said several MDAs are already complying with the directives of the federal government as thousands of civil servants began receiving credit alerts from their banks since Tuesday.
Members of the organized private sector also appeared to be borrowing a leaf from the initiative of the federal government aimed at encouraging voters to turn out in their millions on Saturday to vote their preferred candidates in the presidential and national assembly elections.
Federal government also said it has been locked in negotiations with members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria- IPMAN- to shed N5 from the rate of petrol and keep price at N140 per liter.
Another group that does not want to be left out in this season of goodwill is the National Union of Road Transport Workers- NURTW. They are encouraging their members to offer generous discounts to voters who will be using their services this weekend for the purpose of exercising their franchise.
It would be recalled that two major operators in the Nigerian Airline industry- Aero Contractors and Arik Air- have also slashed travel costs by offering making huge cuts from the regular ticket fees.
While Aero Contractors is offering a 50% discount to travelers who elect to patronize them, their rivals- Arik- will charge a uniform fee of N16, 000 per seat for Nigerians travelling to any location within the country this season.
