An Abuja Federal High Court presided over by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu has adjourned the trial of former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan to March 6th. The EFCC- Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, had on January 14, 2019 arraigned Dr Okupe before the court on a 59-count charge bordering on “money laundering and criminal diversion of funds” to the tune of N702 million.
A press statement made available to newsmen by the Commission’s acting head of media and publicity- Tony Orilade- announced the court would reconvene on the adjourned date to take further testimonies from several other witnesses after the lead witness -Osas Azonabor, made his presentation to the court on Thursday detailing how tranches of duplicitous payments were made into the personal bank accounts of the former spokesman to the ex-president. The defence team is led by Joe Kyari Gadzama.
