Police Ready to Deal with Electoral Offenders on Saturday

The acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed A. Adamu has warned those plotting to foment troubles in the governorship/state houses of assembly elections scheduled to take place at the weekend to perish the thought or face the full wrath of the law as the police establishment under him would not hesitate to deal decisively with hoodlums or anyone or groups who attempt to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the next round of elections.

The acting IG read this riot act to political actors when addressing an elite team of strategic police managers at the Force Headquarters this Monday.

The meeting which was called at the instance of the IG to debrief the officers following the completion of the presidential/national assembly elections and to prepare the officers for the governorship/state houses of assembly elections next Saturday.

The police helmsman announced that 323 persons were arrested by the NPF in the last election for various offences, two police officers, according to the acting IGP lost their lives while some others sustained various degrees of injuries.

He went on to inform the officers that already, he had directed the Special Electoral Offences Team of the police to immediately investigate all allegations leveled against the electoral offenders and liaise with the Independent National Electoral Commission-INEC- with a view to prosecuting the offenders.

The police chief assured Nigerians and members of the international community that the force would do everything in its powers to ensure a peaceful conduct of the March 9th elections- inviting all concerned parties to play strictly by the rules of the game as enshrined in the Electoral Act.
