Tragedy struck in Umuonu-Umuida, Enugu Ezike- the hometown of Senator Ayogu Eze, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Enugu State as a local election observer in the area whose identity was not immediately known was hit by what an eye-witness called a “stray bullet.”
The shooting took place as police tried to contain a protest by indigenes of the community calling for a postponement of the guber election in the state considering that their candidate- Senator Ayogu Eze- only had his name returned to the ballot on the order of an appeal court which ruled ruled that he and not George Ogara is the legitimate candidate of the APC last Thursday.
The Enugu state police confirmed the shooting but weren’t willing to establish whether he was dead or alive. A source at the scene of the shooting however insisted that the victim died on the spot having been hit on the head.
