All is not well within the ranks of All Progressives Congress (APC) as the infighting in the party is manifesting amongst it’s image makers.
In recent time, the party had issued conflicting statements with the recent one issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the National
Chairman of the party, Simon Ebegbulem where he claimed that some APC governors were plotting to impeach the National Chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomohole.
Ebegbulem, few hours after, issued another statement pleading with newsmen to disregard the earlier statement as “it was not authorized by the National Chairman “
On Thursday, Ebegbulem also issued another statement on behalf of Oshiomohole where he condemned reports of the APC National Chairman being accused of bribe taking during the primary elections.
However, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of APC, Yekini Nabena cautioned Ebegbulem on the official WhatsApp platform where the statement was issued saying rather than focusing on propaganda, he should face the damages affecting the party.
“Simon, please stop all this media propaganda and face the reality on ground.
The damages affecting the party” Nabena wrote.
Few hours later, after Nabena declared his statement as off record one but it was too late by then as journalists on the WhatsApp portal replied that they had already filed their reports.
Roots TV tried to reach out to both the spokespersons, but no one was willing to speak on record.
At a time when APC is trying hard to keep its flock together, such type of feud is certainly not good for the party which is seeking re-election.
Till few days ago there were general belief that the combination of President Buhari as a flag bearer for 2019 and Oshiomole as national chairman is charismatic and going to crack that magic formula in upcoming election.
Some party sources admit that sudden emergence of the rift among party cadres indicates that there are some factions within the party who actually are trying to widen this gap.
