Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has publicly criticized the planned nationwide protests, asserting the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the economic challenges facing Nigerians.
In a statement shared on his verified Facebook page during a town hall meeting with traditional rulers and stakeholders, Sani acknowledged the economic difficulties stemming from years of mismanagement and corruption but emphasized that President Tinubu is actively working to rectify these issues.
Sani highlighted that the President has introduced policies aimed at revitalizing the economy, although he admitted that the implementation has been painful for many citizens. He stated, “The severe economic situation the country faced required a surgical operation,” and urged support for the government’s efforts to restore economic stability.
During the meeting, Sani noted the ongoing security challenges in the state, including banditry and kidnapping, which have significant impacts on the socio-economic fabric of the region. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability, asserting that no group in Kaduna has approached the police to organize protests.
The participants at the town hall unanimously opposed any mass protests, recalling the negative consequences of previous demonstrations.The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Nuhu Bamalli, also urged caution, reminding citizens of the potential for violence and destruction that protests can bring, as seen in other African nations. The overall sentiment at the meeting was one of unity in rejecting protests, with a focus on supporting the government’s developmental and security initiatives.
