Organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protest against hunger and hardship in Nigeria have vowed to continue their demonstrations despite increased security presence aimed at intimidating them.
On August 6, 2024, only two of the protest leaders, Ene Obi and Hauwa Mustapha, were present at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, as many other participants chose to stay away.
Ene Obi criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation, calling it empty and unresponsive to the protesters’ demands. She emphasized the need for the government to lower fuel prices and address the widespread poverty and unemployment affecting families. Obi expressed frustration with the government’s lack of action, stating, “We are mothers… The mothers in the land are wounded.
“The protests have faced significant challenges, including reports of police using tear gas to disperse demonstrators in various locations. Despite these obstacles, the organizers have committed to maintaining their presence at the stadium until the planned 10-day protest concludes.
The ongoing unrest follows a series of violent protests across the country, with security forces responding aggressively to demonstrators. The situation remains tense as the protesters continue to demand accountability and action from the government regarding the economic hardships facing Nigerians.
