A Kano State Mobile Court has ordered the remand of 632 protesters following their alleged involvement in vandalism during the #Endbadgovernance nationwide protest. The court presided over by Senior Magistrates Ibrahim Mansur-Yola, Hadiza Rabiu-Bello, and Chief Magistrate Abba Muttaka-Dandago, addressed charges including criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful assembly, inciting disturbance, trespass, and mischief by fire.
The State Director of Public Prosecution, Salisu Tahir, informed the court that the alleged offenses occurred on August 1, when the defendants reportedly vandalized government and public properties, broke into shops, and looted goods. Some defendants pleaded guilty while others denied the charges.
Following the court session, Kano State Attorney General Haruna Isa-Dederi stated that the government has established three mobile courts to expedite the prosecution process due to the high number of defendants involved. He also requested the formation of three Special Courts within the state police command to manage the cases effectively. The court has adjourned the hearing until August 19, allowing time for the case diary to be reviewed by the Ministry of Justice.
