The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, launched the Light Up project in Enugu on Monday as part of the federal government’s efforts to enhance energy supply to industrial clusters in the South East region.
Present at the ceremony were Senator Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum; Dr. Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State; Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State; and Hon. Francis Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State.
Shettima characterized the project as a transformative journey and a source of renewed hope for industrialists and investors in the region.
The project’s launch was a collaborative effort between the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) and its partners.
Highlighting the importance of the project to President Bola Tinubu, Shettima affirmed the determination of Tinubu’s administration to enhance power supply to industrial clusters in the South East.
He stated, “The long-awaited solution to erratic power supply is finally here, and this project will contribute to stabilizing Nigeria because industrialization cannot thrive without power.”
“The economic well-being of Nigeria remains a top priority for President Tinubu, as we firmly believe that a functioning power sector is key to a prosperous Nigeria. Therefore, we are committed to making this project successful and to see the South East thrive.”
Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Chiedu Ugbo, highlighted that the event provided an opportunity for the business community in the South-East Zone to engage with the Vice President of Nigeria.
Ugbo stated, “We are honoured to have you all here today. This event is part of a series of initiatives led by His Excellency, the Vice President, who serves as the Chairman of Niger Delta Power Holding Company.”
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, speaking on behalf of his colleagues, expressed that the Light-Up Nigeria Project heralds a new era for power and industrialization in the South East region.
The event was also graced by dignitaries including former Senate President Pius Anyim, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Emeka Offor, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), among others.
