The Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that 16 people have died and 3,936 houses have been destroyed due to severe flooding across the state. The flooding, which has also submerged 2,744 hectares of farmland, has affected 10 local government areas following torrential rainfall since the start of the 2024 rainy season.
The fatalities were attributed to building collapses, drowning incidents, and canoe accidents. In response to the disaster, the agency has provided temporary shelter and relief materials, including food and blankets, to those displaced by the flooding
