Dozens of ad hoc officials employed for the conduct of the last round of elections in Lagos state are currently protesting over the failure of the Independent National Electoral Commission- INEC- to pay them the agreed allowances.
The ad hoc staff were heard chanting “no pay, no work,” at collation centres around Ojo and Iba areas of Lagos. Not one of them was ready to lift a finger to go to work in the polling units till their demands were met.
They were adamant that till INEC pays them the balance of their allowances for the February 23rd presidential and national assembly elections- not one material from the collation centre would be deployed.
Many observers who spoke to the press on the condition of anonymity expressed shock that INEC was unable to sort out issues of staff allowances and entitlements until this morning.
The stalemate is delaying the commencement of the voting exercise in several parts of the former capital city.
