Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a 63-year-old man identified as Sunday Igbinokhuaihe for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl.
The incident took place in Urhonigbe, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of the state, where the suspect, who is a neighbor to the parents of the little girl, allegedly lured her into his room with a loaf of bread and thereafter used his finger to defile her.
The act was reportedly uncovered after the little girl screamed when her mother attempted to bathe her later in the evening.
The little girl went further to explain to her mother how Igbinokhuaihe used his finger on her private part, an information that prompted the mother to raise an alarm, which attracted neighbors.
The case was immediately reported at the Urhonigbe Police Station and the suspect was arrested before he was later transferred to Abudu Police Division.
The Command’s spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Benin where he his currently being detained pending the conclusion of an investigation.
