The Nigerian Army, on Wednesday, announced that it had deployed 300 female soldiers to boost security on the Kaduna-Abuja Highway and to tackle the rising spate of banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities along the expressway.
The female soldiers, who were attached to the Nigerian Army Women Corps, were drafted from the 1 Division Kaduna State.
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, formally received about 100 of the 300 soldiers on Wednesday.
El-Rufai expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army for deploying the troops, adding that with the deployment of the female soldiers, the insecurity along the highways would soon be a thing of the past.
He assured the newly deployed officers of the Kaduna State Government’s continued support as they worked towards securing the entire State.
He said, “The problem of Abuja-Kaduna road will be over with these female soldiers because what a man can do a woman can do better.
“I am confident the road will be the safest in Nigeria. We will do everything possible to make this operation comfortable. We are very happy to have you. “Your presence will inspire others girls to join the military. That is why we have female deputy governor to inspire other women.”
