About 13 persons were killed and over 40 injured in rocket attack on Maiduguri by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday.
The insurgents fired two volleys of explosives on the city, hitting the densely populated Adamkolo and Gwange neighborhoods.
A military source disclosed that the insurgents launched bombs which landed in a football field in Gwange near the house of late General Mamman Shuwa, who was one of the earlier casualties of insurgency in the state.
Nine boys who were playing football on the field were killed by the rocket and many others were also injured in the area.
A team of military, civilian joint task force and humanitarian workers were said to have combed the town for corpses and assisted the injured to the hospital.
