Forty five passengers were rescued from a BRT vehicle which caught fire on Monday morning, causing panic among transport users.
The incident was said to have occurred around 11 am at the Idiroko-Anthony area of Lagos State.
The BRT bus was on its way to TBS terminal, Lagos Island, from Ikorodu terminal. Reports say the initial vehicle conveying the passengers had broken down at the Owode area of Ikorodu Lagos when the burnt vehicle came to pick the stranded passengers.
Although there was no loss of life, some passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries while trying to escape the fire.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident in a statement.
Farinloye said, “NEMA, Police Disaster Management Unit, and fire service rescued the passengers unhurt. There was a rescue bus to assist in evacuating stranded passengers from a broken-down bus.
“The initial bus carrying the passengers took off from Ikorodu but broke down at Owode which made the burnt bus to come to the aid of the passengers.”
