OccupyLekkiTollGate: Youths threaten fresh protest at Lekki tollgate

Following the approval of the reopening of the Lekki tollgate by the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of the #EndSARS protesters at the facility on October 20, 2020 by soldiers, some youths have threatened to return to the streets to protest at the Lekki tollgate to express their dissatisfaction with the panel’s decision.

Many have taken to twitter to mobilize with #RevolutionNow and #OccupyLekkiTollGate to protest that those who carried out the alleged shooting of innocent citizens must face the law before the tollgate can be reopened.

According to Twitter sources, the #OccupyLekkiTollGate, which is another wave of protest against injustice and government’s silence over the Lekki shootings, is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate approved the reopening of the tollgate last Saturday.

It was reported that as of 11 am on Monday, some youths had begun to share Display Pictures and banners to create awareness about the impending protest at the Lekki tollgate.

Recall that the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing the alleged killing of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki tollgate had, on Saturday, approved the reopening of the tollgate.

Omoyele Sowore, one of the campaigners tweeted, “No to the reopening of #Lekkitollgate, the perpetrators of #LekkiMassacre must be brought to book.”

Chuks @AhanekuChuks urged those planning to protest to strategize properly, saying, “Now we move with strategies and togetherness, it is time you showed what you have got for the government. We have given them much time but they took our silent night for granted not knowing that we are putting heads together to study how to bring peace to the new generation.”

Another campaigner, Dtowncrier tweeted, “Reopen Lekki tollgate and reopen #EndSARS protest.”

Coconut Head @iamProficience added, “We never believed the panel, nothing good ever came out of any panel in Nigeria but a mere inquiry. No going back till there’s justice for all! #OccupyLekkiTollGate on Saturday! #Endsarsbrutality.”
