Pipeline vandals busted in Osun, 302 petrol kegs seized

Officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State have busted pipeline vandals in Ogere, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.

The vandals allegedly abandoned their tools including 302 empty petrol cans and fled when they sighted the NSCDC operatives on Wednesday.

The NSCDC spokesperson in the state, Ogbonnaya Dyke, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

He said a patrol team of the NSCDC Command in the state stormed Ogere on Wednesday and met the jerry cans abandoned by the vandals.

Dyke said, “Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command on Wednesday voided an intending strike at a pipeline right of way (PROW) in Antenna, Ogere I, Ikenne Local Government Area of the State by destroying over 302 kegs meant to be used for vandalisation by alleged vandals.

“The Commandant, Mr Hammed Abodunrin, who had instituted a new way of proactive intelligence and strategy which would discourage any intention to commit such heinous crime by irritant vandals, disclosed that the corps will use all available tactics to curb attacks on the pipeline across the state.

“Abodunrin said that the men of the Anti-Vandal team have been commissioned to ensure a zero-tolerance on pipeline vandalisation.”

Though none of the vandals were arrested, the NSCDC commandant, Hammed Abodunrin, said the command is working towards their arrests.
