Police operatives have arrested comedian Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, and about 22 other #OccupyLekkiTollgate protesters at the Lekki toll gate.
Macaroni joined other protesters at the tollgate to demonstrate against the decision of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry to allow the Lekki Concession Company resume operations at the Lekki tollgate on Saturday.
The comedian was reportedly arrested after the police told him “we don’t want you here”.
Adebayo was said to have lamented on Instagram live that “Lekki is under military rule”, after which his phone and those of other arrested protesters were seized by security operatives.
He said, “How did you think the reopening of tollgate is the next line of action? If you didn’t do that today, we won’t have a right to be here.
“It is a disrespect to say that you want to reopen at this tollgate. Are you spitting on the graves of the dead?
“Na military regime we dey? We also have a right to be heard. We have a right to protest peacefully.”
The Federal Government, Lagos state government and the police had earlier warned youths against repeating any protest at the Lekki tollgate on Saturday, as it would be perceived as disturbance of public peace.
But the #EndSARS Season 2 and #OccupyLekkiTollgate vowed to defy the government’s order and seek justice who lost their lives last year in the #EndSARS massacre.
As at the time of filing this report, no fewer than 23 #OccupyLekkiTollgate protesters have been arrested and taken into custody by security operatives stationed at the toll gate.
