N2.2bn fraud case: Court summons Malami, Emefiele, Magu, Falana to testify in Maina’s trial

Justice Okon Abang of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has ordered the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, and Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, to appear before the Court and give evidence in the ongoing trial of the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.

In a series of subpoenas addressed separately to each of them, Justice Okon Abang, ordered that they appear in court on March 9, 10, and 11, 2021 to give evidence in the N2.2 billion pension fraud trial.

Others who were also summoned to appear for the trial include; M. Mustapha of Zenith Bank Abuja, Hassan Salihu of ICPC, G.T. Idriss also of ICPC, Mohammed Wakil, a retired commissioner of police, Kenneth Amabem; Kennedy Uzoka, Group Managing Director of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Managing Director, Fidelity Bank, Ibrahim Kaigama of NIPSS, Jos, and the Director of Compliance, CBN.

The document addressed to the individuals reads, “You are commanded in the name of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to attend before this court at Court 6, on March 9, 10, and 11, 2021 at 9 O’ Clock in the forenoon and so from day to day till above case is tried, to give evidence on behalf of the first defendant.”

Recall that Maina is standing trial for allegedly laundering money to the tune of N2 billion.
