Recovered loot: Reps issue 3-day ultimatum to Emefiele, Monguno, others

The House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the status of all recovered loot and assets from 2002 to 2020 has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, to appear before it.

Also, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, and the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, were listed in the summon.

The committee issued the summon on Monday, after the CBN governor and the others failed to appear before the committee.

The government officials had sent representatives, but the Chairman of the committee, Adejoro Adeogun (APC, Ondo), said it was insulting not to have forwarded letters to that effect to the committee.

Adeogun said allowing representatives without a proper letter of introduction would be equal to allowing “impersonators.”

He said, “You are indirectly insulting the House of Representatives. You are undermining the House of Representatives.”

Ibrahim Isiaka (APC, Ogun), who moved a motion to give the agencies 3 days to appear before the committee, suggested that the House should shut down its activities if the agencies fail to appear before them.
