Bandits attacked Goran Namaye community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Monday, killing 4 persons and abducting 50 others.
The police in the state disclosed this on Monday.
However, sources said the number of those kidnapped is more than 70 while 10 were reportedly killed.
A resident of Bakura community, close to Goran Namaye, identified as Hamza Bakura, said the bandits struck at about 1am and operated for more than 5 hours.
He added that when security operatives arrived at the village around 4 a.m., the bandits engaged them in a fierce gun battle.
Bakura said, “Immediately they entered the village, they started shooting but most of the people killed were slaughtered, not shot.”
The police spokesman in the state, Mohammed Shehu, said the Commissioner of Police, Yakubu Elkana, has ordered immediate search and rescue operations for the abducted victims.
