Schools in Lagos to resume September 13

The Lagos government has announced resumption guidelines for the 2021/2022 academic session for public and private schools.

Schools will resume on September 13. Students of model colleges and upgraded schools will resume in batches from September 19, 2021.

This was contained in a statement by the education ministry’s spokesman Ganiu Lawal.

According to the statement, Education Commissioner, Folasade Adefisayo, explained that boarders in the model colleges and upgraded schools and SS2 students seeking placement into SS3 class would resume September 10.

“The revision for this class will run from September 20 to September 26 while promotion examination to SS3 class will start from September 27 to October 8, 2021,” said the Lagos government. “The newly admitted JS1 students into model colleges and Upgraded Schools are to resume October 2 for a one-week orientation program which will intimate them on the secondary school structure and modalities.”

She added that other returning students in JSS 2, JSS 3, SS1, and SS2 in the colleges and upgraded schools would resume on October 9, while classes would begin on October 11, 2021.

The commissioner further revealed that the adoption of staggered resumption for schools was due to 2020/2021 SS3 students currently sitting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

She also stated that the ongoing WASSCE would end on October 6.

Adefisayo appealed to parents to abide by the new development for a smooth academic session.
