A Niger State High Court sitting in Minna on Wednesday has reinstated the Emir of Kontagora, Mohammed Barau.
The court vacated its earlier order restraining Barau from parading himself as the 7th Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora.
Ruling on Wednesday, Justice Abdullahi Mikailu vacated the ex parte order after listening to arguments to the defendant’s counsel that the stool of the emir was not a perishable commodity and therefore, should not be left vacant.
The counsel had also said that the current security situation in the country required the participation of traditional rulers in talking to their subjects on the issues of security, adding that the town should not be left without a king.
Before adjourning the case to November 11 for hearing, the judge ruled that Kontagora should return to the stool pending hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
