Nkechi Mogbo, owner of the apartment where late Usifo Ataga, the SuperTV CEO was murdered told a Lagos High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Monday, November 15, 2021, that she neither met Ataga nor his claimed murderers before the incident.
Mogbo said she didn’t know if the prime suspect, Chidinma Ojukwu, was a Nigerian because the suspect used a different name while booking the apartment.
She disclosed this during a sitting where Chidinma Ojukwu, Chioma Egbuchu and one Adedapo Quadri are being tried for Ataga’s murder.
Mogbo said, “I was not privileged to know if she was a Nigerian due to the name she gave, Jewel, and the foreign phone number she used while booking for the apartment.”
She also mentioned that when the payment for the apartment was made with Ataga’s name, she did not suspect anything because payment could be made by a friend or family member.
The witness also revealed that Ojukwu sent the receipt of payment through WhatsApp.
She said, “I did not know who the initiator of the payment was; the defendant sent to me the proof of payment less than a minute after the payment was made; so, there was nothing to arouse any suspicion.
“If I did, I would have called the person for further clarification. I had no idea who the lady was. I never met her before. I had no idea the reason she lodged at the apartment except what I was told.”
Mogbo denied informing a guest occupying the adjacent apartment to leave the premises after Ataga’s killing. She said the guest had indicated a week earlier of his intention to leave.
