Fuel scarcity, long queues return to Abuja

Petrol scarcity and long queues at filling stations have returned to the streets of Abuja, the Federal Capital City (FCT).

The queues were noticed over the weekend and as of Monday morning in various areas in the FCT.

It was gathered that the alleged indebtedness of the Federal Government has crippled marketers’ effective procurement and distribution capacity.

However, the immediate cause of the latest queues in Abuja remains unknown as filling stations in the Wuse, Bwari and Lugbe areas of the FCT still sell petrol at prices ranging from N162 to N165.

According to the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the government was owing more than N100 billion in overdue bridging payment.

They alleged that the N100 billion debt due on procured petrol by the defunct Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF), now Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), have not been paid despite persistent demand.
