Students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, came out en masse on Wednesday to protest the ongoing strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The students had earlier declared what they called ‘UNISTREETS’, meaning that Nigerian students would now be taking lectures on the streets with some of them acting as lecturers, all in a bid to protest school closure.
Recall that on Tuesday, students of tertiary institutions in Oyo State came out in their numbers to protest against persistent school closure due to the strike action of ASUU.
The students gathered in front of the University of Ibadan carrying placards with various inscriptions, and calling for an end to the ASUU strike.
Meanwhile the protest in Lagos State was foiled as a team of security officials, including men of the Nigeria Police Force, were stationed at the main gate of the University of Lagos, following a planned protest by a group of students over the lingering ASUU strike.
The strike action of ASUU, which is entering its fourth month, has left public universities shut.
