On Wednesday, scores of bandits were killed as a result of an aerial bombardment by the Nigeria Air Force’s air component of Operation Whirl Punch at the Sabon Layi village in Kaduna State’s Birinin Gwari Local Government Area.
The military action began about 9:44 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, when the ministry received a panicked call that Sabon Layi hamlet in Birnin Gwari LG was under heavy attack by bandits.
According to him, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch was immediately contacted for action, and the unit arrived at the scene quickly.
Hundreds of fleeing hoodlums were killed by airstrikes during the military operation, according to the commissioner.
He claimed the bandits had been shooting, rustling cattle, robbing properties, and performing other horrific crimes, causing villagers to panic.
Aruwan said, “Immediately, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch was contacted for action, and the unit responded promptly to the location.
“A thorough scan upon arrival at Sabon Layi revealed normal human activities at the reported location.” However, the bandits were seen retreating for cover from the aircraft about four kilometers north of Sabon Liya hamlet. In many passes, they were engaged and neutralized.
“There was no further movement observed following the strike.
“The aircraft remained visible overhead before departing.”
The commissioner also described the state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as praising the military’s valor in successfully neutralizing the bandits during the operation.
“While the government awaits a formal report on the initial attack in Sabon Layi village, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has praised the air component for the prompt action, and expressed his gratitude to the military for neutralizing the feeling bandits,” he added.
