Seun Kuti, a musician in the Afrobeat genre who was facing challenges, was released from police custody on Tuesday, having been detained for a period of eight days.
On May 16, he surrendered himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos State and was subsequently taken into custody.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, had issued an arrest warrant for the musician following his assault on a policeman on May 13, which was captured in a viral video on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Yeni Kuti, Seun’s older sister, informed our correspondent on Tuesday that the musician had satisfied the conditions of his bail, which had been granted by the magistrate, and had been set free.
Yeni stated that Lande Ransome-Kuti and Funke Kuti acted as the guarantors for Seun. She stated that his bail had been perfected, the judge had signed it, and the sureties had been accepted.
Lande and Funke stood as sureties for him, and they have gone to their houses to inspect.
Seun’s attorney, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), confirmed the development.
