The Universal Basic Education Commission has stated that the estimated number of out-of-school children in Nigeria is no longer accurate, and that correct data can only be obtained through a nationwide census.
The United Nations Children Emergency Fund previously estimated the number to be over 20 million, but the outgoing Minister of Education believes this to be exaggerated.
Unfortunately, the national population census, which could provide accurate data, has been postponed indefinitely by the government.
