Lagos govt releases Sanwo-Olu’s 11-day inauguration programmes

The Lagos State Government has issued an 11-day schedule for the swearing-in ceremony of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, as they commence their second term in office.

The programmes that will celebrate Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat are scheduled to take place in various parts of the state, specifically in the five divisions of Lagos – Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, announced the 11-day events at a press conference held at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja on Friday.

The events will run from May 21 to June 4. He stated that the Sanwo-Olu administration has fulfilled its promise of “A Greater Lagos” in numerous aspects of life, including the implementation of several life-changing projects, social investments in the citizens, and the economic development of the State.

Omotoso, who serves as the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the inauguration committee, announced that Inauguration Day is scheduled for May 29th.

Additionally, post-inauguration Jummat and Church services will take place simultaneously in five divisions of the state on Day Nine (June 2) and Day 11 (June 4) respectively.

He revealed that project commissioning would occur in eight local government areas, namely Ajeromi/Ifelodun, Alimosho, Ikeja, Kosofe, Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere.

The commissioning will take place for three consecutive days from May 24 (Day Three) to May 26 (Day Five).

Omotoso stated that on Day One, there will be simultaneous Youth Carnival and Robotic competitions across all five divisions of Lagos, which will include People Living with Disability.

On Day Two (May 23), a public lecture titled “The Making of a Beacon: Lagos and the Consolidation of a Democracy that works for all” will be delivered by Prof Adigun Agbaje, former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.

Additionally, a Book Launch, Photo Exhibition, and Stage Drama performance will also take place on Day Two at the Muson Centre in Onikan, Lagos.

On May 27, Children’s Day activities will be held at the Police College in Ikeja, and a Novelty Match will be played simultaneously in five divisions of Lagos. On May 28, the Pre-inauguration rehearsal will take place.
