The management of UNICAL has taken action, suspending Cyril Ndifon, the dean of the faculty of law, following accusations of sexual harassment. The decision to suspend Ndifon was communicated in a letter signed by the university’s registrar, Gabriel Egbe, on Thursday.
Earlier this week, female students, led by Benedict Otu, President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria, took to the streets to demand the removal of Ndifon. The protesting students, dressed in white shirts and black skirts, chanted passionately, calling for Ndifon’s departure.
Their placards carried strong messages, including “Enough of law school list manipulation” and “Professor Ndifon must go for our sanity.”
The university administration responded by launching an investigation into the allegations against Ndifon. The seriousness of the accusations prompted swift action.
As of today, Ndifon’s suspension is in effect, pending the outcome of the investigation. This suspension, which begins on Thursday, August 17, 2023, requires Ndifon to relinquish all university property and official responsibilities before vacating his office.
