Nigerian long jumper Ese Brume has made history by becoming the first Nigerian field athlete to qualify for the final of the Diamond League, which is athletics’ premier one-day series.
Brume achieved this feat by jumping 6.71 meters at the 12th leg of the league’s meetings in Xiamen, China. Her performance earned her a third-place finish behind Ivan Vuleta of Serbia and Marthe Koala of Burkina Faso.
Brume’s point total now stands at 16, securing her place as one of the six athletes who will compete in the final event in Oregon, USA, marking the first time Nigeria will have two athletes in the Diamond League final in the same year.
