President Bola Tinubu has stated that all diplomatic avenues will be explored before considering military intervention in the Niger Republic, emphasizing that forcefully overthrowing a democratic government is unacceptable.
According to him, “Nigeria and Niger are neighbors, and what has joined Nigerians together with their great people cannot be broken.”
He said this during a meeting with the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs led by Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, President Tinubu expressed concerns about the possibility of copycat military coups in the region. Tinubu thanked him for several visits to the Niger Republic, he highlighted the importance of maintaining peaceful relations with the Niger Republic while warning against the consequences of not addressing the situation.
