Odia, an employee of Independent Television and Radio, was fatally attacked on Sunday night in the vicinity of 2nd East Circular, Benin City, the capital of the state.
Chidi Nwabuzor, a spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, verified the incident, revealing that “a considerable number of secret cult members from various groups have been apprehended in different locations within the state, and the suspects are poised to face charges for prosecution.”
In the interim, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state has called on security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to uncover the circumstances surrounding the broadcaster’s murder.
The union expressed its condolences for the departed colleague and urged security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incident. They emphasized the need for justice and accountability in addressing the untimely demise of Odia.
In a statement, the NUJ extended its sympathies to Odia’s family, encouraging them to find solace in the knowledge that he will be remembered for his positive contributions to history.
