The Abuja Association of the Deaf (AAD) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to establish an agency dedicated to implementing the disability act and other government policies for Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the FCT. The AAD, led by Chairman Ayoade Beyioku-Alase, emphasized the need for prioritizing the domestication of the Disability Act and the creation of the FCT Agency for Persons with Disabilities to effectively address the needs and rights of PWDs in Abuja. Beyioku-Alase highlighted the challenges faced by PWDs in the FCT, stating that they have been left behind despite government interventions, and called for an inclusive environment through the establishment of the agency. The proposed agency would be responsible for providing support services, advocating for inclusive policies, and ensuring accessibility in public spaces, education, and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
