The Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Ibrahim Chana, made a statement on Thursday in Lagos, highlighting that the command collected N52.7 billion in revenue, indicating a 26.4% increase compared to the N41.7 billion collected in 2022. He praised the command’s performance in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations, attributing the success to voluntary compliance by stakeholders and proactive engagement with the business communities in Kano and Jigawa states.
Mr. Chana also commended the collaboration with sister government agencies and listed various seizures made, emphasizing the importance of inter-agency collaboration. Additionally, he highlighted efforts to improve compliance, streamline processes, and foster a more efficient trade environment through stakeholder engagement and training sessions.
The initiative on a data-driven customs service, discussed at the recent Comptroller General of Customs Conference, was praised for its potential impact on improving customs operations. Mr. Chana emphasized the command’s commitment to leveraging data for forecasting, analysis, and planning to enhance its mandate and anticipate future challenges.
He concluded by expressing plans for continuous engagement with stakeholders, especially within the Kano Free Trade Zone and Maigatari Free Trade Zone, to promote an enabling environment for businesses and boost economic prospects in the region.
