The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has emphasized to electricity distribution companies, including the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), not to enforce communities to procure transformers, cables, and poles. Adelabu stressed that providing transformers, poles, and cables to communities falls under the responsibility of the electricity distribution companies operating in their respective areas.
The minister cautioned against the practice of communities being compelled to purchase such equipment, stating that President Bola Tinubu disapproves of such actions by electricity distribution companies.
During a visit to the IBEDC office in Ibadan, Adelabu asserted that the current administration prioritizes a consistent and reliable power supply and will not tolerate situations where communities are burdened with the cost of essential electrical infrastructure.
He urged distribution companies to enhance their effectiveness in addressing customer complaints and emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring improvements in power supply, discouraging citizens from paying for inadequate service. Adelabu highlighted the government’s success in Kaduna as an example and reiterated the paramount importance of providing quality service to the public.
