Former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, has shared the reasons behind writing a memoir about his time in the previous administration. Adesina, along with co-author Udu Yakubu, spoke ahead of the upcoming launch of their books by President Bola Tinubu next Tuesday.
The two books, “Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)” by Femi Adesina and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015-2023)” edited by Udu Yakubu, aim to document the policies and programs of the Buhari administration for future generations.
Adesina, a long-time admirer of President Buhari since his military leadership days, emphasized that the books were not intended as public relations memoirs but rather as a comprehensive account of the administration’s achievements. Adesina’s book covers various aspects, including President Buhari’s medical tourism, to provide a holistic view of the eight-year tenure.
The memoir aims to dispel myths and misconceptions that have been circulated about the previous administration. Adesina explained that his decision to write about President Buhari’s eight years in power was driven by his admiration for the President and his support since 2003.
Initially hesitant to accept the role of Adviser on Media, Adesina eventually took up the appointment due to his deep respect for President Buhari. Reflecting on his journey, Adesina shared his emotional experience of resigning from his previous position as Managing Director of the Sun Newspapers and President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, highlighting the uncertainties of stepping into a new role.
The launch of these books promises to provide valuable insights into the Buhari administration, correcting misconceptions and preserving the legacy of President Buhari’s leadership.
