Three people drowned and 11 were rescued on Monday evening when a passenger boat capsized along the Ibeshe-Ikorodu channel in Lagos.
The boat overturned at around 7:30 pm due to a suspected mechanical fault, according to witnesses.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident, stating that the boat named Oluwaseyifunmi was carrying 14 people when it capsized.
A rescue operation involving LASWA and other responders led to the recovery of 11 survivors, who were taken to the Ibeshe Ferry Terminal for treatment. Unfortunately, three passengers were found dead.
LASWA and relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
